The sentence above that reads:

“Iwama’s widow Tsunemi wants justice, and wants her husband’s murder recognized as just that, a murder.”

is incorrect.

The widow wanted the death to be declared “komusaigai” and finally prevailed.

Actually, you’ve got it a bit backwards. The widow wanted her husband’s death declared “work related” as she is eligible for more insurance benefits. If someone’s death is work related their widow/widower and underage children (if any) get all kinds of insurance and pension benefits, especially if a case like this where the husband is a government employee. The wife is the one who filed the lawsuit that led to this (to her) favorable decision. Story here:

I think we definitely cry for this one… I think that the widow is getting screwed out of a lot of insurance money. You almost have to wonder if someone at one office went to college with someone at another office and they figure they’ll save each other a couple of million yen at the expense of the old grieving widow…
