Thank you very much for the correction LB!

The sentence above that reads:

"Iwama’s widow Tsunemi wants justice, and wants her husband’s murder recognized as just that, a murder."

is incorrect.

The widow wanted the death to be declared "komusaigai" and finally prevailed.

I'll make the proper corrections above, thank you very much!

Actually, you've got it a bit backwards. The widow wanted her husband's death declared "work related" as she is eligible for more insurance benefits. If someone's death is work related their widow/widower and underage children (if any) get all kinds of insurance and pension benefits, especially if a case like this where the husband is a government employee. The wife is the one who filed the lawsuit that led to this (to her) favorable decision. Story here:

I think we definitely cry for this one... I think that the widow is getting screwed out of a lot of insurance money. You almost have to wonder if someone at one office went to college with someone at another office and they figure they'll save each other a couple of million yen at the expense of the old grieving widow...

too cynical?

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at this one. If this was anywhere else you'd think it was a hoax story. But this is Japan...
