Suicide is a big problem here, and Ms. Kawada's death is a huge tragedy. She had a lot of fans and supporters here in Japan. I don't ever remember seeing anything negative written about her before or after she passed. Japan needs to take a long hard look at why this kind of thing continues to happen before any more pretty, intelligent, positive contributors to society are lost.

Ako was my dear friend. I met her in the States (Michigan) while she was a exchange student. I have been blessed to know such a wonderful person. She was truely a joy to be around always open and ready to learn and take part in our culture and way of living. I miss her tremendously. I thank-you for keeping her memory alive.

No problem. I'll keep a spotlight on it as much as I can. I am not surprised the number of debt-related suicides. Going to convenience stores and using the ATMs, you notice a lot of slips from after people have withdrawn some money. Just glanced at them, but the number with under $200 in their entire account is scary.

This is definitely an issue that needs attention. If 30,000 people died from eating Chinese made gyoza in Japan the government would pass all kinds of crazy laws. This is definitely an issue that needs to be dragged out into the open. I read recently that the majority of suicides are debt related. The rampant debt here is another issue that Japan needs to come out into the light. Thanks for bringing keeping a spotlight on it.

Thanks for the link through to my site. Hope people can read about this story, and that something is done to help curb these 30,000+ suicides we have each year in Japan
